Bedford Man Arrested After Breaking Into Business

Last updated on Tuesday, July 7, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police saw him come back for items he had stolen from Nalee Engineering on Industrial Drive.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, police were called to the business after the owner returned after the Limestone Heritage Parade around 2:26 p.m. and found the back door of the business open and items stacked outside.

"There were computers, copper and brass fittings and a number of other items stacked outside the building," Parsley says. "There were also items stacked along a backed fence."

The burglary was caught on surveillance video.

"The video showed the man climbing the fence to an outside area at the rear of the building," Parsley says. "Detectives also discovered DNA evidence at the scene and that was gathered."

Officers were contacted that more stolen items had been discovered stacked along the fence behind Weaver's Wrecker Service.

"Instead of removing those items, officers had a hunch and sat and watched," Parsley says. "It didn't take long and a man matching the surveillance video pulled up in a truck, just after 6:30 p.m., jumped out and began collecting the stolen items. He was arrested and taken to jail."

Officers arrested 31-year-old Joseph Abner on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
