(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Monday after police say he stole a couple’s vehicle and other items from their home while they were out of town.
Police arrested 30-year-old Jordan Miller, of 251 Briarwood Lane, on warrants charging him with auto theft, burglary and theft.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the couple had been out of town from May 26 to May 31.
When the homeowners returned, they discovered their 1995 Jeep Cherokee was missing. They also discovered someone had been staying in their home while they were away.
The family told police they found empty food containers and food packages, and dirty dishes in the sink. Blankets had been moved, and there were whiskers in the bathroom sink. The homeowners also discovered that old prescriptions and over-the-counter medication had been stolen.
The couple told police they had not given anyone permission to stay in their home or to drive their vehicle.
Then, on June 13, the couple learned that Miller had the Jeep and had told others he had permission to drive it. A Lawrence County Police officer found the Jeep and confirmed it was the stolen vehicle. However, they could not speak to Miller at the time of the discovery because he had checked himself into a substance abuse treatment center.
