(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was arrested Tuesday night after police found her lying on the sidewalk at 17th and H Streets.
When officers arrived they found 35-year-old Kesha Deckard of Bedford intoxicated and lying on the sidewalk complaining that her feet and arms hurt and she couldn't walk.
Police called an ambulance.
When the ambulance arrived, Deckard began yelling at both the IU Health Hospital ambulance crew and police.
"She refused to cooperate and was being combative with the ambulance crew," says Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley. "They were finally able to talk her into getting into the ambulance and go to the hospital."
But before the ambulance could arrive at the hospital they notified police that they needed assistance with Deckard because she was being loud and uncooperative.
"When they got to the emergency room they found Ms. Deckard yelling at the hospital staff and being combative with both the ambulance crew and ER staff," Parsley added. "The emergency room was full of patients and Ms. Deckard was causing such a disturbance the ER doctor requested she be removed from the hospital."
Officers had to physically carry her to the police car because she refused to walk.
Once in the car, Deckard continued to be verbally abusive.
When officers arrived at the Lawrence County Jail, Deckard again refused to get out of the car or to walk into the facility.
"The jail staff had to physically carry her into the jail," Parsley added.
Deckard is facing charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting arrest by force.
