(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after he allegedly grabbed a woman around the neck and threatened her with a hammer. Police say the incident happened in front of two children.
Bloomington Police arrested 37-year-old Cody Sowders of Bloomington on Thursday for charges of burglary, intimidation, domestic battery and invasion of privacy.
According to Bloomington Police Sgt. Joe Crider, officers were called to Henderson Court Apartments, in the 2300 block of South Winslow Court, at 4:36 p.m. Thursday after a 36-year-old woman called the police. She told officers that Sowders kicked in her front door, broke into her apartment and kicked in the locked door of a bedroom, where she was hiding.
The woman told police Sowder grabbed her by the throat, threw her to the bedroom floor and threatened to hit her with a hammer.
Two children had been sleeping in the bedroom at the time of the reported break-in and assault.
Officers arrested Sowder at the apartment. He told police he broke into the apartment because he was concerned someone was blocking the door.
