(UNDATED) - Indiana Department of Transportation plans to restrict traffic on State Road 46 to a single lane for three successive weekends at its bridge over Stephens Creek, about halfway between Bloomington and the Brown County line.
Temporary signals at either end of the bridge will permit one-direction-at-a-time alternating traffic flow beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. Lane restrictions will be lifted before 5 a.m. Monday.
Weekend bridge work is weather dependent. Rain will postpone operations and cancel restrictions.
A subcontractor will apply a three-eighths-inch coating of polymeric epoxy on the bridge deck. The overlay serves as a sealant against moisture, and flint chips will be mixed in to help drivers with maneuvering and stopping.
The bridge is crossed by 7,400 vehicles per day.
