(ORLEANS) - Orleans and Orange County Rural District II Volunteer Fire Departments were called to fire at the home of Sue Bruner Thursday afternoon.
According to Orleans VFD Safety Officer Chief Red Cundiff, when firefighters arrived at the double-wide moble home in the 500 block of South Sixth Street no one was home. A motorist reported the fire at 12:33 p.m.
Cundiff says firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the family room and a two-car garage that was attached to the home. The rest of the home had heat and smoke damage.
Bruner returned home while firefighters were battling the blaze.
Bruner's cats, which were inside of the home, died. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. They did not have to be transported to the hospital
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
