(LOOGOOTEE) - The grand opening of Loogootee’s new community pool is Friday.
Mayor Noel Harty says he grand opening will be at 5 p.m. and will be open to the public from 9 p.m. till 10 p.m. There will be live music throughout the evening.
Regular pool hours will be noon to 6 p.m. seven days a week, until school begins the first week of August. The pool will then be open on weekends through at least Labor Day. The mayor says there will also be an occasional "twilight swim" and pool parties in the evening.
The pool project cost the city $556,934 with the additional cost of $18,150 for a slide and $3,535 for a "coolbrella".
RenoSys bid on the pool project last year, and promised to have it open by July 1, weather prevent that from happening.
The company was granted an extension until July 4.
Rain made the project difficult to complete, but Mayor Harty says the company could have done more before rainy weather hit the area.
RenoSys was liable for a $1,000 per day fine because it missed the July 4 pool opening. However, due to the rain situation, the company and city reached a financial agreement in lieu of the fine.
The company didl provide Loogootee an automatic pool cleaner at no cost, a $2,300 value. In addition, the company will pay $6,500 toward the wages for pool lifeguards and concession workers.
