(LOOGOOTEE) - A single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon north of Loogootee killed an Indianapolis woman and injured four others.
Around 3:20 p.m. 69-year-old Barry P. Matesick of Indianapolis was traveling north on U.S. 231 near Abel Lane (approximately one mile south of West Boggs Lake), when his 2005 Chevrolet Suburban and trailer he was towing left the east side of the roadway.
Matesick over-corrected the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line and leave the east side of the roadway. The Chevrolet came to a stop after colliding head-on into a tree.
Matesick was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville for treatment.
Matesick's front seat passenger, 65-year-old Lorretta Matesick of Indianapolis, suffered massive chest trauma from the impact and died as a result of her injuries.
Three children in the back seat, 17-year-old Cheyenne McIntyre, 25-year-old Meghan McIntyre and 13-year-old Erik McIntyre all suffered minor injuries and were taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Indiana Conservation Officers, Martin County Sheriff's Department, and the Loogootee Fire Department. U.S. 231 was closed for more than two hours while the crash was investigated.
Investigating Officer was Senior Trooper Jarrod Lents. Assisting him were Master Trooper Gary Wier and Trooper Ross Johnson.
