Poultry Club Gets Creative To Gauge Members' Knowledge

(BEDFORD) - Due to the avian flu strain sweeping the country this spring, the Board of Animal Health required that all poultry animals not be physically present at the fairs this summer, in order to prevent the disease from spreading to other animals.
The Poultry Club got creative and held a series of events to gauge members' knowledge and skills, while having a little fun too.
Events included:
- A round-robin, which tested 4-Hers knowledge
- Showmanship using a stuffed chicken
- Poster contests
- Egg drop
- Egg judging competition
Events at the fair include:
Thursday, July 23 Family Night
- 9 a.m. Dairy & Pygmy Goat Show
- 4 p.m. Swine Show
- 5 p.m. Expo & Family arts open
- 6 p.m. Midway opens, Family Night, armbands $15
- 7 p.m. Southern In Gospel Music (tent)
- 7 p.m. ATV & UTV Mud Bogs $8 adult, $5 ages 7-12, 6 and under free
Friday, July 24
- 9 a.m. 4-H Cat Show
- 4 p.m. Round Robin
- 5 p.m. Expo Hall and Family arts open
- 6 p.m. Midway opens
- 7 p.m. Mud Bogs, $8 adults, $5 ages 7-12, 6 and under free
- 9 p.m. 50 Caliber performs
Saturday, July 25, Carload Night $25 up to six people
- 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. Robotics Demonstration and contest
- 2 p.m. 4-H Livestock Auction
- 3 p.m. Expo Hall Opens
- 6 p.m. Demolition Derby
- 7 p.m. Building Nations (Christian Rock Band)
- 9:30 p.m. The Lasting Hope (tent)
- 11 p.m. All non auction animals released
