(UNDATED) - Section 8 Housing schemes are popping up all over the country.
According to the Better Business Bureau, the scheme begins when a potential home buyer/renter is led to a website that appears legitimate, possibly even using a logo that looks similar to an official government agency, and in turn request the searcher to pay a registration fee to sign up for a voucher to get on a waiting list for housing.
Fact is, the housing authorities never charge a fee to apply. If a person wires money or uses a prepaid debit card, it may be nearly impossible to get back the money. Information regarding housing resources can be obtained through the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority at http://www.in.gov/ihcda/.
