(BEDFORD) - David VanLandingham, currently the worship pastor at Bedford First Church of God, and front-man of contemporary christian group “Building Nations” has entered his audition via video for the final season of American Idol.
VanLandingham says, "I've always wanted to re-audition for American Idol ever since I was a senior in high school in 2007 when they were in Kentucky! But pretty much life happened and I haven't been back since."
VanLandingham plays in his band Building Nations with his brother, Randy (backup vocals, guitar), his mom Karen (bass), Dave Higgins (guitar), Isaac Hawkins (lead guitar), and Keeran Jones (drums).
Now being a full time worship pastor at Bedford First Church of God, being married to his wife Annie, and also a father of 3, American Idol just didn't quite fit into his schedule, and he missed the live auditions in Indy.
Luckily, his wife notified him that he could submit a video audition to the producers of the show. He did so, and here's what he had to say about the response: "I was so blown away!...over 6k views and rising" after he posted a video of him performing the song "Story of My Life" from One Direction.
He then posted a second video, this time performing "I Can Only Imagine," from the group MercyMe, and that video quickly rose to over 3k views.
"Like I said before, I am blown away by the response online and especially in the community!" VanLandingham says. "It's been really fun to audition and it's been awesome to see my hometown so very supportive."
VanLandingham is looking to make the live shows after the Hollywood rounds and his goal not to win the contest, or even to play on the biggest stage, it is simply to get his message of his faith out to the country, and to share what Christ has done through his life.
