(PALMYRA) - Miss Crawford County, 20-year-old Abby Sutherland, was killed in a car crash Saturday morning.
On July 11, Alvin Sutherland, Abby's father, was filled with joy after learning that his daughter had been crowned Miss Crawford County. This was Abby's third attempt at the crown.
Now he is full of sadness.
"When you open the door and there is a policeman standing there, you know it ain't good news. My world just fell apart," Alvin Sutherland said.
Abby Sutherland was the passenger in a car that crashed on Tree Drive in Palmyra on Saturday around 12:30 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, 21-year-old Dakota Alexander, was airlifted to University Hospital with serious injuries.
Although police couldn't rule out if speed played a role in the crash, authorities do not believe alcohol played a factor. The Harrison County Sheriff's Office is continuing their investigation into the accident.
Funeral arrangements for Sutherland will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
