(SWEETWATER LAKE) - A Brown County man died Friday afternoon at a Sweetwater Lake property when a tree he was cutting fell on him.
Brown County Coroner Earl Piper says 68-year-old Eugene Smith was cutting a tree on his nephew's property in the 6500 block of Buffalo Drive on the east side of Sweetwater Lake when a large part of the tree fell. It came down across the left side of his body, striking his shoulder, arm and face.
Smith was alone at the property when the accident happened. Piper says Smith as cutting the tree in a down hill area behind a shed. He could not be scene from the roadway.
Smith had left his home between 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Family members discovered Smith at 5:20 p.m.
