(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Solid Waste Management District recently moved its operations from the former CSX Depot at 1221 J St. to the old Elliott Stone Co. property at 3326 Mitchell Road.
The new facility is now home to the recycling center, the local district offers nine collection stations, a transfer station, household hazardous waste collection, a paint swap program, a compost facility, a used cooking oil collection program and a refrigerant facility.
Director Ron Walker says the move will give the operation more space, more visibility and community access. The drive-through facility allows business to be conducted inside, instead of out in the weather.
Currently operations are being done in the large building at the rear of the property, but there are plans to build a new facility just south of that building.
Recycling services are now available from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through the week and 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Customers should enter the property and drive through the building and place their recyclables into the bins located on the left. They then can exit out the south end of the property.
