(HANOVER) - Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a 43-year-old man who was shot dead after charging at Jefferson County deputies in a “highly agitated manner” after being struck by a stun gun.
Jefferson County Sheriff John Wallace says John Unsworth of Hanover was fatally shot about 4:45 a.m. Saturday.
Wallace says deputies responded to a report of a fight. Wallace said people in the house told deputies Unsworth, a family member, was out of control and had attacked them.
Wallace said Unsworth ignored verbal commands and continued to move toward deputies after being struck several times by a stun gun. Wallace says the deputy who fired feared for his life.
Unsworth was pronounced dead at a hospital.
