(BUDDAH) - A Mitchell woman and her passenger was injured after her 2000 Econoline flipped onto its side into a ditch Thursday afternoon.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 55-year-old Yvonne Clapham, was traveling south on Buddah Bypass, near Rivervale Road when her van ran off the west side of the road.
Clapham attempted to drive the van back onto the roadway, but police say she over-corrected causing the vehicle to roll over onto the passenger side. The vehicle then slid south on the west side of the road striking the bridge guard rail. The vehicle then slid down an embankment into the creek and stopped against a tree.
Both Clapham and her passenger, 53-year-old Michael McCoy of Mitchell, were trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters from the Bedford Fire Department and Marion Volunteer Fire Department freed the two from the wreckage. An IU Health Hospital ambulance crew assisted at the scene.
Clapham complained of head, neck and chest pain. McCoy suffered cuts to his face and complained of back pain. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police say Clapham was traveling too fast for the wet road conditions.
