(WORTHINGTON) - A reward for information is being offered following senseless acts of vandalism over the weekend that destroyed three decorative urns in Worthington.
The urns, full of blooming seasonal flowers and greenery, were located on sidewalks in Worthington's downtown Triangle area.
The urns, part of an ongoing beautification project over several years, were placed by and are maintained by members of the Worthington Garden Club.
The Greene County Daily World reports that through fundraising efforts and donations, the Garden Club purchased these three urns along with many more over a period of years. Then every year, through every season, Garden Club members plant flowers appropriate for each season and decorate the urns for holidays. Each urn is unique, depending on the individual Garden Club member who takes responsibility for an urn.
With help from many business owners and shopkeepers, the Garden Club members are committed to carry water, weed and maintain the urns without fail so they were shocked that someone would destroy what they have worked so hard to provide.
"We do not take this vandalism lightly," said Garden Club President Betti Fuller. "A police report has been made. A reward is being offered."
The three damaged urns were heavy, made of cast concrete and filled with soil and plantings.
This incident occurred sometime late on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
