(DAVIESS CO.) - A Spurgeon man was sentenced after accepting a plea deal on charges of child solicitation and dissemination of matters harmful to minors - both Class D felonies.
57-year-old Ricky L. Shepard agreed to the plea agreement in June.
He was sentenced to probation for 720 days on each count to be served concurrently, ordered to register as a sex offender and fined $200. He was given credit for one day served
Once he completes probation without violations, Shepard can file a sentence modification to have the felony status removed from his record.
According to police between July 30, 2013 and August 9, 2013 Shepard was found driving near Race Street in Odon looking for a 14-year-old girl that lived in that area.
Odon Town Marshal Bryan Noble spoke with the girl who allowed officer to contact Spurgeon with her phone via text message.
Officers, while posing as the girl, asked Shepard a series of questions and he responded with sexually explicit answers and photos.
Then on August 8, 2013, officers again posing as the girl made contact with Shepard, who again sent explicit text messages to the girl.
Officers then questioned Shepard who told officers he believed the girl was 24 not 14. He then told officers he was not really going to do anything he had expressed in the text messages.
