(BEDFORD) - Two people were arrested Sunday after a Bedford Police officer stopped them on a traffic violation at the intersection of Mitchell Road and Able Avenue.
"The officer noticed the vehicle roll through a stop sign and then cross the centerline on Mitchell Road," Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says. "Once the officer activated their lights, the driver of the vehicle threw something out of the window."
That item was not located by police.
"Once the officer approached the vehicle, the driver popped something into his mouth and swallowed," Parsley added.
A K-9 was called to the scene an alerted the officer to possible drugs inside of the vehicle.
"Officers found a knife that had a spoon attachment that had a white-powdery substance on it that tested positive for heroin," Parsley added.
Officers arrested the driver, 40-year-old Darin Rollman, on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia.
His passenger, 29-year-old Lacy Sneed, is facing charges of visiting a common nuisance, possession of a schedule I controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
