(WASHINGTON) - Daviess County officials have identified the man killed in a camper fire at 1800 North County Road 100 West, near Washington.
The fire claimed the life of 57-year-old Terry Clark.
Two men spotted the camper in flames late Wednesday morning on their way to lunch. The men attempted to save Clark, but were unable too.
The fire quickly engulfed the camper and it was fully involved when firefighters from Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene minutes later.
The Daviess County Coroner Laura Petty says an autopsy was completed Thursday.
Right now she has ruled the manner of death as accidental.
Because the victim was badly burned, officials had difficulty getting a positive identification on the victim and spent about 30 hours working on it before his identification could be determined.
Officials are unclear why Clark was in the camper because he lived in a house on the property. Another individual was living in the camper, but once that located that man the identification turned to it being Clark.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating what started the blaze. Washington VFD Chief Tony Wichman says it could be several months before officials receive a report from the State Fire Marshal.
Daviess County Chief Deputy Gary Allison says their investigation is on-going.
"We still have some unanswered questions we are looking into," he added.
