(BLOOMINGTON) - A Monroe County deputy’s car was struck Sunday at around 9:45 p.m. by an intoxicated driver.
Leticia Cortes-Carbajal tested for a blood alcohol content of more than three times the legal limit.
Deputy Alexander Hahn was traveling north on South State Road 37 approaching the intersection of West Tapp Road when a 2008 GMC Arcadia failed to yield and hit the side of his Dodge Charger. The impact spun Hahn's vehicle around and into a 2004 Honda Pilot stopped at the intersection.
The police cruiser's lights and siren were activated at the time.
Cortes-Carbajal failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed her blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
The deputy and Cortes-Carbajal were transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Both were treated and released.
Leticia Cortes-Carbajal is facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle while never licensed. She was also issued a citation for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
