(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley is warning residents that a scammer is using officer’s names and the department’s name to scam people out of money to allegedly help children that have lost their parents to meth arrests.
"This is not our department or our officers soliciting these funds," Parsley says. "It is a scam. The caller is asking residents to donate anywhere between $300 to $700."
The department has received several calls about the scammers. If you receive one of these calls, notify police immediately.
Parsley says the Department will be requesting funds for the Shop With A Cop event on Friday.
Anyone that wishes to donate to that event can call the department and an officer will pick up the donation or the person can deliver their donation at the department.
