(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington woman was arrested Saturday afternoon on a murder charges after she allegedly shot and killed her husband with her children in the home.
According to Monroe County Sheriff's detective Brad Swain, around 4:30 p.m. officers were called to a home in the 500 block of West San Juan Drive on the south side of Bloomington after neighbors heard several shots fired.
The neighbor, Jayme Jones, told police that he saw Justin Kirby opening the door to his home across the street just before 4:30 p.m. He told police that he saw Justin saying something and then heard what sounded like four gun shots and Justin falling to the ground. Jones saw his chest rise and fall, and then stop.
Minutes later, the couple's boy and a girl in diapers came outside to play in the carport near the body.
Department of Natural Resources conservation officers were the first to respond to the 911 call and found Jones and other neighbors trying to keep the kids and Kirby's wife, Taylor, busy and distracted.
Taylor Kirby was crying and screaming near the body before neighbors guided her across the street.
Police say Justin Kirby had been shot four times. He died at the scene.
Investigators report that his wife, 23-year-old Taylor Roxann Kirby, killed her husband.
When asked what happened, Taylor Kirby told police her husband came after her and she shot him.
Both children were unharmed and have been placed with relatives.
An autopsy will be conducted today.
