(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police arrested a man whose DNA linked him to an August 2014 rape.
Donwan Townsley, who did not list an address when he was arrested, is facing a preliminary charge of rape. He was booked into the Monroe County Jail at 12:37 p.m. Saturday. He is being held on $2,000 surety or $500 cash bond.
Police say the rape happened on August 23, 2014 in the 1300 block of North Lincoln Avenue around 3:30 a.m. The woman told police she did not know Townsley and was unsure how he managed to get into her home that morning. The woman told police she woke to Townsley assaulting her. She began fighting and Townsley fled the home.
DNA evidence was collected as a part of a rape kit analysis. That DNA matched that of Townsley. Police secured an arrest warrant based on the DNA evidence and arrested Townsley at Bryan Park on Saturday.
