(ENGLISH) - Indiana Conservation Officers with the DNR Law Enforcement Division, along with the DNR Division of Outdoor Recreation, will be unveiling an ATV safety awareness program on September 13.
The event will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on East Fifth Street in English.
Two department vehicles have been designed and wrapped with an ATV safety message to be used by Officers and DNR personnel in events, parades and public appearances across the state.
The funding for the Law Enforcement vehicle was donated by the Reyling family of English, who lost their son Kenny in an ATV accident on January 1, 2004. To see a video of Kenny's story visit http://www.in.gov/dnr/lawenfor/2758.htm.
"Over 200 people are injured and an average of 16 fatalities in ATV accidents per year in Indiana over the past several years has increased the need for public awareness," said Indiana Conservation Officer's Outdoor Education Lieutenant Larry Morrison. "This event is a step in the right direction to reducing the risk to our citizens when operating ATV's."
Indiana Conservation Officers will be conducting an educational demonstration of safe ATV instruction for their officers for the public to view at this event.
The public is invited to attend.
The band TRIPWIRE will be performing and food provided by the English Parks Department will be available. Crawford County EMS and Air Evac will also be at this event.
