(MORGAN CO.) - A Martinsville mother and daughter died in a one-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Ind. 44.
According to Morgan County Coroner Annette Rohlman, 49-year-old Elizabeth A. Garrett and her daughter, 24-year-old Cristina M. Brundrett, died at the scene. A Lifeline helicopter was called, but was disregarded after it was determined both women had died.
According to a Morgan County Sheriff's Department police report, Garrett was traveling west on Ind. 44 when her vehicle ran off the right side of the road. According to an accident reconstructionist, tire marks on the road show Garrett might have turned the wheel in an attempt to get back on the road. The tire marks show the vehicle crossing the eastbound lane before running off the road. Her vehicle hit two pine trees in front of a home at the intersection of Ind. 44 and Centennial Road.
A dog that was in the vehicle was taken by the Morgan County Humane Society to a veterinarian for treatment. It's condition is unknown.
Assisting at the scene were the Morgan County Sheriff's Department, the Green and Washington township fire departments, Morgan County Emergency Management Agency Ambulance 61, Care Ambulance, The Morgan County Coroner, and an Indiana Department of Natural Resources officer.
