Student Makes Threat To Blow Up Martinsville School On Sept. 11

(MARTINSVILLE) - The Martinsville Police Department say the juvenile responsible for posting an Instagram threat to blow up Bell East Middle School on September 11 has been identified.

Martinsville school officials immediately notified authorities after spotting a threatening message late Tuesday during routine monitoring and immediately called police

According to Martinsville Police Chief Rodger Wiltermood, the threat was made on the school's Instagram page. Police say the person did not threaten any individual. The threat was to blow up Bell-East Middle School on September 11.

After the threat, officers stepped up patrols around the school.

Chief Wiltermood says a juvenile suspect was arrested Wednesday evening.

"The threat did not target any specific student, but rather the entire school," he added. "We have to treat it as legitimate.:

The threat did not affect today's classes.
