(MITCHELL) - The 3rd Annual Z102 Persimmon Festival Idol is looking for contestants.

The Persimmon Idol competition starts with preliminary performances and judging this Thursday in the Mitchell High School auditorium.

There are two age divisions: youth, ages 10 to 17, and adult, ages 18 and older. During preliminary performances, contestants will be allowed a small amount of time to perform a song of their choice in front of judges.

Youth performances will be from 5-7 p.m., and adult contestants can perform from 7-9 p.m. Sign up to sing just prior to the start of the preliminaries.

Sponsored by Z102 102.5 WPHZ, contestants must provide lyrics and their own background music. Acapella singing is also allowed. The maximum song limit is four minutes. No explicit lyrics are allowed. Music and lyrics must be approved by WPHZ officials before performance.

Auditions have a closed door policy; no friends or family members will be allowed into the audition room. Those contestants chosen to perform on the Main Street Stage will then be contacted sometime after Monday, September 21.

Those who pass through the preliminary round will be contacted to perform on the Main Street stage from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Winners will be chosen from the final group of contestants. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
