(AUSTIN) - An Austin man has been charged with the murder of 79-year-old John Turner.
On Friday, Scott County Prosecutor Jason Mount has charged 21-year-old James Matthew Caudill with murder, felony murder, robbery causing serious bodily injury, robbery with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement, obstruction of justice, carrying a handgun without a license, additional penalty for the use of a firearm during a crime.
He is also facing charges of robbery, carrying a handgun without a license, additional penalty for the use of a firearm during a crime, pointing a firearm at a person and criminal confinement for a robbery that took place at the Fuel Mart Truck Stop in Austin on October 11.
Caudill is accused of entering John's Coin and Jewelry at 61 West Main Street in Austin on November 7 and shooting and killing Turner while robbing the store. According to police, Turner's body was found by family members inside the shop.
SP Sgt. Jerry D. Goodin says an autopsy revealed the that Turner died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Caudill's brother Christopher was also charged with assisting a criminal, theft, obstruction of justice, carrying a handgun without a license, dealing in meth, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police say officers found money, jewelry and other items associated with Turner's killing at the home the brothers.
