(SPRINGVILLE) - A Bloomington man was injured after Lawrence County police say he crashed a stolen vehicle Thursday night near Springville.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 45-year-old Harvey Hampton was traveling east on Ind. 54 in a 2013 Chevrolet and lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway. The vehicle ran off the roadway and went over an embankment, through several trees and rolled several times.
Hampton had to be freed from the wreckage. He complained of back pain and was taken by an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew to Bloomington for treatment.
While investigating the accident, police discovered Hampton had a suspended driver's license and that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen by the owner, Joseph Gillespie.
A gun was also found inside of the vehicle. Police say the gun did not belong to the owner.
Police say the criminal investigation continues and criminal charges are pending.
Assisting at the scene was an IU Health Hospital ambulance, Perry Volunteer Fire Department and Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.
