(SALEM) - Anyone who has purchased new property, refinanced their house or has transferred a deed may have received a letter requiring them to pay $89 for a copy of their deed. Don’t do it!
Washington County Recorder Kyra Stephenson says many people have been asking about a letter they received with a return address of Local Records Office 133 W. Market St. #239, Indianapolis, IN 46204 requesting them to send in a processing fee to obtain a copy of their deed.
Don't do it, residents can receive a free copy at the recorder's office.
The company, Local Records Office is not affiliated with the county in which your deed is filed, nor it is affiliated with any government agencies.
Stephenson wants to make sure residents know they can get a copy of their own deed at any time, for free.
For more information, call the recorder's office at (812) 883-4001.
