(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department is hosting the “Navigating the Caregiver Challenge,” on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the City of Bloomington Showers Building, Atrium and Council Chambers, 401 N. Morton St.
According to Area 10 Agency on Aging's 2013 Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults, as many as 50 percent of older adults in Monroe and Owen counties are caregivers. Navigating the Caregiver Challenge will bring these community members together in a forum discussing the challenges and answering questions associated with caregiving. Panelists, who have experienced caregiving firsthand, will briefly discuss how people in the community can support each other with advice, words of wisdom, and suggestions for resources. Panel topics for the event will include Alzheimer's/Dementia, Self-Care/Caregiver Burnout and Pre-Planning.
This event coincides with the National Family Caregivers and National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Months in November.
While the forum is free, however registration is encouraged online at http://form.jotform.us/form/52726792702157. It will be appropriate for any caregiver, especially those caring for the elderly, at home, or in an eldercare facility, who may be experiencing challenges and don not know where to turn or what resources are available.
"Navigating the Caregiver Challenge" is sponsored by the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department with support from the Area 10 Agency on Aging and the City of Bloomington Commission on Aging.
