(OOLITIC) - A furnace fire in an apartment at Oolitic Manor filled the apartment with smoke.
"There was no fire damage to the apartment," says Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ted Maze. "The fire was out when we arrived on the scene."
Firefighters from both Oolitic and Shawswick VFDs were alerted at 5:43 a.m. Sunday about the fire in a downstairs apartment in building 504 C on West Ninth Street.
"The resident had used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire," Maze says. "The furnace had recently been worked on and malfunctioned when it came on. We are not even sure there was actually a fire, but there was smoke."
Firefighters say everyone had been evacuated from the building before firefighters arrived.
After checking to make sure the fire was extinguished, firefighters then used fans to ventilate apartments what had filled with smoke.
