(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University received a bronze rating in regards to bike safety.
Each college campus is rated in five areas: engineering, education, encouragement, evaluation and planning and enforcement. Colleges are then rated from bronze to platinum.
Amelia Neptune, Program Manager of the Bicycle Friendly University Program says the university's Little 500 event programming and the fact that it hired an outside consultant for a bicycle master plan and having a bike share program since 2014 help landed them the rating.
There is still work to be done to increase the rating, buy providing more education on bike safety and an on-campus bike center could make accessibility better for students and faculty, they could also have more designated bike paths for bicyclist which could increase the college's rating.
