(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police are searching for a man who allegedly was armed with a handgun and sexually assaulted a woman in her Brownstone Terrace Apartment located in the 200 block of E. 14th Street this morning.
Officers were alerted to the attack at 3:30 a.m. and IU students were alerted about the attack asking them to remain inside and to lock their doors.
The 22-year-old woman told police she heard a knock on her front door and when she opened it, a light-skinned black male pushed his way into her apartment and forced her into her bedroom at gunpoint where she was sexually assaulted.
The man then fled the apartment.
The woman was taken to IU Health-Bloomington for a sexual assault exam. Police say she suffered no serious injuries.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, believed to be under 6' in height with a thin build. He was wearing dark clothing and the weapon was described as a black semi-automatic handgun. He may have had a prior nose fracture due to the bridge of his nose being described as "crooked". Also, the victim indicated that he had dark-colored tattoos on his neck with one continuing along the left side of his face and ending near the top of his left ear.
The suspect has not been located and the incident remains under investigation by detectives.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bloomington Police Department at (812) 339-4477.
