Orange County REMC Warns Public About Scam

(ORANGE CO) - Orange County REMC would like to warn the public of a telephone fraud that is targeting members.

Several members have received calls stating they had not paid their electric bill and were subject to disconnection. Members were then asked to make a payment immediately. Please be advised that this is a scam.

Orange County REMC's automated notification system calls members concerning prior balances, prepay accounts, planned outages and other possible situations where members need to be notified within a short period of time. Members are asked to verify they are the account holder and then they may proceed to make a payment if desired.

Orange County REMC recommends anyone who has given credit or debit card information to someone in relation to this scam to contact his or her financial institution immediately to cancel the payment.
