(BEDFORD) - David Shircliff is the new Lawrence County Public Defender’s Agency Chief Public Defender.
He is replacing John Haury, who was named to the position after Lorinda Youngcourt moved from the area. Shortly after his appointment, however, Haury died unexpectedly while playing tennis.
Shircliff, 50, has been a public defender for more than 20 years. He was an attorney and trainer for the major felony division at the Marion County Public Defender Agency until accepting this position. He has a master's degree in social work and is a faculty member of the National Criminal Defense College,Indiana Trial Practice Institute and an Adjunct Professor at IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
Most recently, Shircliff was the defense attorney in the case of the 2012 Richmond Hill neighborhood bombing, which killed two people and destroyed many homes in Indianapolis.
