(BEDFORD) - The red kettles are out and the bells are ringing in hopes of raising more than $38,000 during this year’s Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign.
In 2014, the community donated $38,000 to the Salvation Army kettles. A Christmas mail campaign raised an additional $24,000 for a total of $62,000.
The first red kettle was placed at Price Less IGA, on Fifth Street and will be manned a few days a week until Black Friday. Then other kettles will be placed at Rural King and JC Penney both in Town Fair Shopping Center, Big Lots and ACE Hardware in Mitchell.
If you would like to assist, to ring the bell, can register online www.registertoring.com. To register by phone, call (812) 583-3965. Shifts are available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Volunteers who sign up online will receive email and text reminders and a thank-you when they've completed their time. The site also can provide a note if the volunteer missed school or work to ring the bell.
Another way to help is to pick and angel from the Angel Trees up at Walmart and ACE Hardware in Mitchell.
The trees contain dozens of tags containing information about local children and what they'd like for Christmas. Gifts can be placed in donation boxes at the stores.
A donation box for food is at Price Less IGA on Fifth Street.
On Dec. 11-12, gifts for children can be donated during a "Fill the Truck" toy drive at Walmart.
If you need help?
Between Dec. 21-23, Lawrence County residents who have not received help from any other charity can contact the Salvation Army office, (812) 275-5429.
