(BEDFORD) - Voter turnout has been slow according to poll workers.
At the Lawrence County Courthouse, only 39 people had voted by 10 a.m. according to Prosecutor Michelle Woodward, who was working the polls.
Voter turnout in Shawswick District 4 at the Bedford Baptist Temple on N Street wasn't much better.
Ina Mack, who was working that poll, says only 19 had cast their votes when the Kern family walked in.
"It's a privilege to vote and I want to keep that privilege," says Beverly Kern, as she showed her identification to cast her vote. "I have been voting since I was able at the age of 18."
Her husband Louis Kern agreed.
"Life is serious," Louis Kern says. "But young people now don't want to take it seriously."
The Kerns have never missed an election.
"I am 82 and Beverly is 78 and we have never taken our privilege to vote for granted," Louis says.
The polls in Bedford and other municipalities will be open until 6 p.m.
1340 WBIW AM, Super Oldies 105.5 WQRK and Z102 102.5 WPHZ will begin presenting election results as they come in.
Election officials remind voters to take a government-issued photo ID to the polls. A driver's license, state ID or federal ID can be used.
Residents who need a ride to the poles can contact TASC at (812) 275-1633 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
