(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Wednesday night after police found him straddling his wife and punching her.
Bedford police officers were first called to the couple's home in the 1700 block of J Street at 6:15 p.m. after 65-year-old Lester Treece had a complaint their children being out of control. When police arrived both Treece and his wife were intoxicated.
Officers were called back to the home at 6:48 p.m. after being notified about a domestic fight.
When officers arrived they heard things being broken in the house. As they approached the house they saw Treece straddling his wife on the floor and hitting her.
Officers rushed inside and ordered Treece to stop, but he refused, so they had to forcibly remove him from on top of her.
They then ordered Treece to get on the ground, he refused and police had to forcibly retrain him.
An ambulance was called to the scene to treat the woman, but she refused to go to the hospital.
Officers arrested Treece. He was taken to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation because of his level of intoxication. Once at the hospital, Treece continued to be loud and disruptive.
After being evaluated he was taken to jail on charges of domestic battery causing bodily harm, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
