(FREETOWN) - A Jackson County man burned when the furnace in his home exploded October 26 has died.
54-year-old David Painter of Freetown died November 25 at Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital, where he was taken after the furnace in the basement of his one-story, wood-framed home at 4807 West Columbus Pike exploded.
Pershing Township Fire Chief Ben Rudolph says an investigation by himself and Josh Kreigh with the State Fire Marshal's Office showed the explosion was accidental and caused by the way the furnace was being operated or attempting to be operated by Painter.
Painter was saved from the burning home by his neighbor 39-year-old Joe Francis.
Painter was treated by personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services before being flown from a field across from his home to the burn unit in Indianapolis.
