Bloomington Police arrested 24-year-old David Durand Brown on charges of robbery and theft after police found him an hour later walking in the area of East Third Street and Overhill Drive.
Brown admitted to the theft, saying he went to the grocery store with the intent of stealing money to buy heroin.

Another shopper witnessed the theft and offered the woman a ride. The two followed the getaway car from the parking lot in the 1100 block of South College Mall Road to the stoplight at East Covenanter Drive
There the woman got out of the car and stared into the window and door of the getaway vehicle. The man opened the car door, threw the purse at the woman and then ran away.
The woman and Good Samaritan told the driver, Brown's girlfriend, to return to the Kroger parking lot to speak with police. She did and she was not arrested.
Brown was arrested about an hour later without incident.
