(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly injured his girlfriend during a domestic fight.
According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, officers were called to Greenwood Retreat Road just after 5 p.m. on Sunday after they received a report of a fight between a male and female.
Officers were told that the male involved in the fight, 31-year-old Billy Young of Bedford, was driving a green Ford F-150. As officers arrived they spotted the vehicle leaving Greenwood Retreat at Dixie Highway. Officer Blackburn stopped the vehicle.
When the officer approached the truck, he detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Young admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day. Young also handed Officer Blackburn a pipe he had used to smoke the drug.
Young told police he had been involved in a verbal argument with his girlfriend earlier in the day and that fight had turned physical.
Police say the victim had red marks and bruising around her neck.
The woman told police that Young had came to the home and was angry because the woman's father refused to give him money. The two then got into an argument which lead to Young grabbing the woman around the neck and choking her, closing off her airway.
Young was arrested on a charge of battery and strangulation. He was also issued a summons on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
