(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell woman was injured Monday morning after a deer ran into the path of her vehicle and she swerved to avoid hitting it.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 28-year-old Rachel Jones was traveling north on Shawswick School House Road, near Leatherwood Road when a deer ran into the path of her 2004 Chrysler.
Jones told police she attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the deer and that is when the vehicle slid sideways, leaving the roadway. The car then struck an embankment and a tree before flipping onto its side.
Jones complained of stomach and pelvis pain, but refused medical attention.
Assisting at the scene was an IU Health Hospital ambulance and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department first responders.
