Last updated on Tuesday, December 15, 2015

(FERDINAND) - Two men were hurting during a hunting accident in Ferdinand Sunday. According to Indiana Conservation officers, the accident happened at 9:15 a.m. Just southwest of Ferdinand.

Police say, 34-year-old Kevin Luebbehusen of Ferdinand and 26-year-old Stacey McBride, of Jasper were with a hunting party watching a rabbit hunt when a rabbit ran between them. At that time 55-year-old Glen Vonderheide of Huntingburg swung his firearm in the direction of Luebbehusen and McBride and shot three times.

Both were hit with pellets from the shotgun receiving non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the thick brush and an incline contributed to obstructing Vonderheide view.

Police say all involved were wearing hunting orange and encourage safe firearm practices and remind all hunters to beaware of their surroindings and what is beyond your target.

Responding agencies included the Dubois County Sheriff's Department, Ferdinand EMS, Saint Henry Fire Department and Indiana Conservation Officers.
