(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a home early Monday morning.
Police arrested 31-year-old Robert Kern Jr., of 1612 Winwood Dr., on a charge of residential entry.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley officers received a 911 call at 3:17 a.m. from a woman reporting she woke to find a man she didn't know inside her home.
Chief Parsley says, police rushed to the 1800 block of 11th Street while the dispatcher kept the woman on the phone.
"The woman says she was asleep and woke hearing someone inside her home," Parsley added. "She then noticed a light on and went to investigate. That is when she saw the man standing in the room. She asked the man not to hurt her and that is when Mr. Kern told her he wouldn't and walked out the door."
The woman told police the man was sitting in a gray car in her driveway.
"When police arrived they found Mr. Kern in the vehicle," Parsley added. "They had dealt with him earlier in the evening when he was stopped for a traffic violation."
One officer stayed with Kern while the other checked on the woman.
"When asked why he was in the house, Mr. Kern told the officer he had seen someone on the roof," Parsley added.
Police say Kern was neither intoxicated or had taken any drugs.
"We have dealt with Mr. Kern before on similar issues," Parsley added.
