(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly knocked a woman to the ground and threatened to kill her with a knife.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, officers were called to the home of 44-year-old Shawn Turpin just after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
"The two had got into an argument over a nutritional product pyramid scheme," Branham says. "That is when Mr. Turpin allegedly put his hands around the woman's throat and squeezed hard, making it difficult for her to breathe."
The woman then kneed Turpin in the groin to escape.
"He grabbed her again, slammed her to the floor, put his knee on her forearm to pin her down, grabbed a knife and threatened to kill her," Sheriff Branham added.
The woman was able to escape when a friend of Turpin's came into the house. She ran out of the house and called 911.
Branham says the woman's two children, ages 2 and 3, were hiding under the kitchen table during the fight.
Turpin was arrested on charges of domestic battery in the presence of a minor and strangulation.
