(BLOOMINGTON) - Fulfilling another promise made during his campaign, Mayor John Hamilton announced the creation and initial implementation of a new “B Clear” function on the city’s website.
The "B Clear" function is a data portal through which the city shares a wide variety of data online.
"Throughout the campaign, we talked about a vision for Bloomington that throws open the doors of city hall, both figuratively and literally. 'B Clear' is the electronic version of open doors at city hall and all city work locations," stated Hamilton.
Each city department head will be leading their staffs in delivering meaningful data to "B Clear."
"At our first meeting of city department heads yesterday, we had what I hope will be the first of many great discussions about what kind of information our citizens need and what we can do to make it available. And citizens are encouraged to give us feedback. Tell us what you want to see on 'B Clear' and we will do our best to make it available," Hamilton said.
By design, the data portal will expand over time as data is added. The city also plans to use 'B Clear' internally to improve information sharing and the management of resources within various city operations.
"'B Clear' really has the potential to help us improve city services and how our departments work together and share resources."
Hamilton continued, "I encourage citizens to go to the city web page at www.bloomington.in.gov to check out this new opportunity for greater transparency from local government. Our work to make local government accessible, open and transparent is just beginning. 'B Clear' is one early step."
