May 1st Deadline For Out-Of-County Jury In Bickford Case

Last updated on Monday, January 18, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Prosecutors and the attorney for a former Indiana University student accused of attacking a Muslim woman have until May 1 to agree on a county to select jurors from for his trial.

The Herald-Times reports that a Monroe County judge in November granted a change of venue request from Triceten Bickford's attorney, Katharine Liell. She argued that the 19-year-old from Fort Wayne can't get a fair trial in Bloomington because of public hostility and prejudicial media reports.

Monroe County prosecutor Bob Miller didn't contest the motion. Jurors will be transported to Bloomington for trial.

Bickford has been charged with multiple felony charges, including intimidation, strangulation and battery, in the Oct. 17 attack. Authorities say he tried to remove the woman's headscarf.

Liell has said Bickford was drunk and may have had medical issues.
