(ST. HENRY) - A Ferdinand man is facing murder and rape charges following an overnight hostage situation at a home east of St Henry.
Police arrested 25-year-old Kyle Popplewell. He is charged with murder, two counts of rapes, battery, battery with serious bodily injury and criminal confinement.
Dead is 37-year old Jeffrey Perry, the homeowner.
According to police, officer went to the home in St. Henry in Ferdinand Township on County Road 50 West, around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.
Dubois County Emergency Response Team was activated for a hostage situation at the residence. Members of Huntingburg and Jasper Police Departments, Indiana State Police officers and negotiators all responded.
According to police, they found Perry dead and an injured female victim at the residence. Another injured female victim was being held hostage in the home.
Police say officers entered the home around 5:40 a.m. and arrested Popplewell.
Indiana State Police are assisting in the investigation which is ongoing.
This is not the first time Popplewell has been in trouble. According to police he was free on bond at the time of this arrest for drug and contempt of court charges in March 2015. He was also arrested in 2009 on possession of drug and possession of alcohol by a minor.
